Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 6-12


AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from January 6 through 12. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jaret Sons, Grace

Sons averaged a double-double, while helping Grace score upsets of No. 9 Bethel and No. 17 Saint Francis. The senior forward posted 24.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per victory, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and draining nine-of-20 looks from downtown.


Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Sarah Fryman, Huntington

Fryman scored 30 points in a win over RV Mount Vernon Nazarene and added 27 more in a defeat of Bethel, leading No. 22 Huntington with 28.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. The senior also shot 51.1 percent from the floor and was a perfect nine-of-nine in free throws.


Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaac Brown, Grace

Brown won the high jump and triple jump at the Trine Invite on Saturday, hitting the NAIA A standard in the high jump with a height of 2.04 meters.


Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kyle Smith, Grace

Smith helped collect a pair of wins for the Lancers over the weekend, crossing first-of-23 runners in the 800-meters with a time of 2:00.07 and helping GC win the 4×400-meter relay.


Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Kyara Black, Spring Arbor

Black cleared 1.63 meters to top a group of 17 competitors and win the high jump for Spring Arbor at the Grand Valley State Open.


Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Nordia Campbell, Grace

Campbell helped the Lancers to three wins at the Trine Invite, taking first-place finishes in the 60-meters, 200-meters and 4×400-meter relay.
