TEXARKANA, Texas – In its second day of play in Texas, the Indiana University South Bend baseball team split its doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Texas A&M-Texarkana defeating the Eagles 10-2 before falling in game two, 5-4. After the weekend, the Titans went 3-1 in Texas and are now 6-6 overall.

Game One (IUSB 10, Texarkana 2) – Senior Troy Cullen enjoyed success on the mound in game one, earning his first win of the season. The Griffith, Ind. native tossed a complete 7.0 innings, allowing just four hits and struck out three.
The IU South Bend offense exploded in the fourth inning with a 2-0 lead that led the Titans to the victory, improving to 3-0 against Texarkana.
Senior Jordan Moore led the Titans at the plate going 3-for-4 with three singles, an RBI and two runs scored while senior counterpart Matthew Miller added two hits off four appearances. Miller registered two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Kole Miller connected on a career-high two hits with a run scored while second baseman Logan Smith added two hits for the Crimson & Cream.
Game Two (Texarkana 5, IUSB 4) – In game two of Saturday’s doubleheader the Titans faltered a 5-0 lead to take their first lost since Feb. 16 at Georgetown College to split Saturday’s action.
Six different IU South Bend batters provided an offensive spark for IU South Bend in game two. Colin Mack, M. Miller, Logan Smith, TJ DeHerrera, Tyler Welborn and Logan Young all connected on one hit for a total of six Titan hits. Welborn and Young added RBIs but it wasn’t enough for the Titans.
The Phoenix added two runs in the fifth before tallying three in the sixth and one in the seventh that sealed the victory.
The Titan bullpen was used often after Matt Rose pitched a solid 4.2 innings that saw two runs off three hits. Rose delivered two strikeouts and three walks to go along with a homer. Freshman Cal Whitaker suffered the loss after 1.1 innings with four hits and one run.
IU South Bend remains on the road next weekend, traveling to Wilmore, Ky. to face Asbury University for a three games.
