No. 5 Taylor Scores 120 in Record-Breaking Victory

UPLAND, Ind. – The fifth-ranked Taylor women’s basketball squad posted its best offensive performance in program history with 120 points in a home win against Bethel. Saturday’s game finished with a 120-59 final score, as the Trojans surpassed the century mark for the third-straight meeting with the Pilots.

TU (23-1, 11-1 CL) bounced back from its first loss of the season with a scoring output that made its mark on the record book. The host squad bested the previous mark of 116 points in a single game with the 120 point outburst on Saturday. 23 three-pointers also set a new program-best, sneaking past the old record of 22 triples hit in TU’s first matchup with Bethel (6-18, 0-12 CL) this season.

From the tipoff through the final buzzer, Taylor looked sharp on both ends of the court. The Trojans picked up a 10-point advantage after five minutes of action, allowing just two points for BU in the stretch. By the half, the Purple and Gold had opened up a gaping 61-18 lead, thanks to 14 threes on 60.9 percent shooting from deep.

Freshman Gretchen Moll logged a career-high 18 points to pace the team, while also sinking her first career three-pointer. The 6-4 center collected eight field goals with five rebounds, one steal and one assist.

Orchestrating the offense, Jamie Netzley found open teammates for a career-best 10 assists to go along with five rebounds and a steal. Merideth Deckard followed closely with six assists to match a personal-best, while offering 14 points of her own on four treys.

Sydney Huffman played a major role in TU’s incredible efficiency from the arc, as the senior logged four long balls without a miss for 14 points. Taylor as a team, nailed 23 threes on 54.8 percent shooting from downtown.

Becca Buchs and Abby Buchs each nabbed 16 points through 24 minutes of action. Becca Buchs added four triples in the contest, extending her streak of games with a three-point make to 51.

Another freshman with a career-high performance, Taylor Browning contributed 13 points in 17 minutes.
