NAIA honors Drake as Player of Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A day after being honored as the Player of the Week for the NCCAA and Crossroads League, Vironnica Drake added one more award on Tuesday.
The senior from Grace’s women’s basketball team was recognized as the NAIA National Player of the Week, the first such award in program history.
Drake broke the program record for points in a game on Saturday, amassing 46 points to beat rival Bethel 84-75. Drake’s 46 points were the most any player in the Crossroads League has scored since 2014 (Huntington’s Miranda Palmer, 48 points).
It’s also the most any women’s NAIA Div. II player has scored since the 2016-17 season (Purdue Northwest’s Cassidy Deno, 51 points). Only five players across any division (NCAA I-II-III, NAIA I-II) have scored more points this season than Drake’s 46-point effort.
Earlier last week, Drake added 19 points, 5 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals to upset No. 5 Taylor 69-63.
