ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – No. 20 Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team fell behind early and pulled within one in the fourth quarter, but ultimately lost its second straight game and first on the road this season at Robert Morris 66-60 on Saturday, Jan. 25
Freshman Maddie Gard led the Titan offense with 18 points, her fifth consecutive game and 12th of her career in double figures. Meanwhile, freshman and sister teammate Katie Gard added 10 points. Maddie Gard also grabbed eight rebounds and three steals to lead the Titans. Three different IUSB players dished out three assists, including senior Kyleigh Kubik, Katie Gard and junior Taitlyn Trenshaw.
The Titans trailed by seven after the first 10 minutes of play before outscoring the Eagles 22-16 in the second quarter. Kate Gard converted one-of-two from the charity stripe in the final second of the half to pull the Titans within one, 35-34, heading into the locker room.
Robert Morris capitalized on 10-of-25 from the floor in the third, holding a 54-46 advantage into the final 10 minutes of the game. IUSB used a 11-4 run over the next seven minutes in the fourth to get them within one of the Eagles. Trenshaw capitalized on a jumper with 3:40 on the clock as the Titans trailed 58-57. A couple Titan miscues and six free throws for RMU sealed the upset, handing IUSB its first loss on the road during the 2019-20 campaign.
The Titans remain on the road, looking to snap back at IU Northwest on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Tip in Gary, Ind. is slated for 6:30 p.m. (EST).
