Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota Earn Big Ten Weekly Softball Awards

Hoosiers’ Emily Goodin, Hawkeyes’ Nia Carter and Golden Gophers’ Amber Fiser are this week’s honorees

Player AND Freshman of the Week

Nia Carter, Iowa

OF – Fr. – Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – St. Paul – Major: Psychology

• Batted .714 with a .733 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage last weekend, helping the Hawkeyes win the Hawaii Invitational with a perfect 5-0 record

• Had 10 hits, four RBI and three runs scored during the tournament

• Had multiple hits in four of Iowa’s five games, highlighted by a walk-off single against Kansas City on Feb. 22

• Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

• Last Iowa Player of the Week: Megan Blank (April 15, 2013)

• Garners her first career Freshman of the Week accolade

• Last Iowa Freshman of the Week: Allison Doocy (April 17, 2017)

Emily Goodin, Indiana

RHP – Sr. – Evansville, Ind. – Mater Dei – Major: Exercise Science

• Posted a 3-1 record in the circle with four complete games, two shutouts, a 0.77 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 27.1 innings to lead Indiana at last weekend’s Fairfield Crabtree Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.

• Recorded her second career no-hitter in the tournament opener on Feb. 21 against Bucknell, striking out seven Bison in five innings

• Had season-high 11 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in eight-inning loss to host NC State with the international tiebreaker rule in effect

• Collects her first career Player of the Week plaudit

• Last Indiana Pitcher of the Week: Tara Trainer (Feb. 25, 2019)

Co-Pitcher of the Week

Amber Fiser, Minnesota

RHP – Sr. – Van Horne, Iowa – Benton Community – Major: Business and Marketing Education

• Went 2-1 in the circle at last weekend’s Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, recording two complete-game shutouts with a 0.36 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 19.1 innings to help the Gophers go 3-2 at the event

• Tossed her first no-hitter since 2018 (third of her career) on Feb. 21 with a five-inning win over Tulsa, as well as a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts against Texas State the following day

• Only loss on the weekend came in relief in an eight-inning setback vs. host Baylor on Feb. 22 in a game decided by international tiebreaker rule

• A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten selection (2018 and 2019)

• Receives her 11th career Pitcher of the Week award (first this season), tying Michigan’s Megan Betsa (2014-17) for the third-most Pitcher of the Week honors in Big Ten history
