Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence. A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August-May each school year. At the end of the year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS coaching staff.
The winners are Ryan Harmelink and Lizzy Kirkton

Ryan Harmelink: Ryan is the son of Erin and Tonya Harmelink. Ryan went 46-20 during his career for boys tennis. He was named All-NLC selection at number one singles this season. Ryan also received the MVP, Paul Underwood Mental Attitude Award, Captain, TomSovine Career Achievement Award for boys tennis this past season. He is a 3 year letter winner for boys tennis. Ryan was named All-District, All-State Team Academic 1st team for boys tennis. He won the Beets Hoke Teamwork Award and Derek Burkhead Memorial Award this past season for boys basketball. Ryan is a two time letter winner for boys basketball. He was a part of the Academic All-NLC team this season. Ryan leads the team by example with his physical fitness as well as his mental and emotional competitive toughness. Ryan has a 4.34 GPA and is ranked number two in his class. Ryan is a member of the National Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Athletic Council, Key Club, Stay in bounds Ambassadors, and his church youth group. He has received the Kiwanis Scholar Athlete award throughout his high school career for his outstanding grades while participating in athletics. After high school, Ryan plans to attending Goshen College and major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Lizzy Kirkton: Lizzy is the daughter of Todd and Allison Kirkton. She has two sisters Haley and Sophia. Lizzy is an outside and inside hitter on the volleyball team. She won the Barb Zook Mental Attitude award, was named one of the team Captain, and Versatile Skills Excellence for volleyball this past season. Lizzy was a three year letter winner for volleyball. She won the F.A.C.E award and was the top scholar athlete for girls basketball. Lizzy is a 4 year letter winner for girls basketball and holds the GHS career record for games played on varsity. She was named Academic All State and was the top Kiwanis Scholar Athlete for volleyball and girls basketball. Lizzyhas attended the Academic Honors Banquet. She has a 4.25 GPA and is ranked number seventh in her class. Lizzy is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Stay In Bounds Ambassadors, and church youth group. She has been named a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete throughout her high school career for her hard work both in and out of the classroom. After high school, Lizzy plans on going to Eastern Mennonite University to study exercise science and to complete in volleyball.
